Don't Blink - Shutter! Sharing the world around me as seen through my lens brings me great joy. Hope you will find enjoyment in the way I see life, nature, abstract and art. *** Life is too short and unpredictable - Live It, Share It, Love it and Immortalize it through the lens. ***
I am an eclectic photographer who simply loves life and enjoys photographing the world around me. My father was in the military and I have traveled extensively growing up. I have been taking photos for personal pleasure since I was a child, however, I never had the opportunity to explore it as a profession. I have a library of old photos in suitcases, flip books, shoe boxes, you name it. I most enjoy looking for the overlooked gems of the world to photograph that others may find, perhaps, too ordinary or not beautiful enough for their lens. I believe if we look closely enough, there is beauty in almost everything around us, even aged paint on a wall. As an adult, and nearing retirement after 37 years in healthcare, I purchased my first DSLR and decided to recreate myself and really become immersed into photography and expression of my art by joining FAA as well as other professional and local networks. In addition, I have been brushing up on skills by taking courses at Ringling Brothers School of The Arts and others. I am determined to reinvent myself and express to the world how I view and see the world around me through art and the lens. I am extremely excited about new technical abilities for digital painting, photo montage and photo art of all types and have begun adding these creations to my collections. Some of greatest influences in my artistic life have been Rene Magritte, Claude Monet, Dali, Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Ansel Adams, Eliot Porter, Frans Lanting, Man Ray, Dorothea Lang, to name just a few. However, my greatest inspirations have come from my artist Aunt growing up and the experiences I have had through life, including the challenges and appreciation I have gained about what life really means and how precious it is. My daughter was born with life threatening health issues which required transplantation at the age of three. Her struggles and strength have given me new perspectives as she faced so many challenges over the years, in addition - I have had many family fighting cancers and Alzheimer's. Life is precious and can be snatched from us in the blink of an eye. Capturing and sharing our emotion and how we see the world through art and the lens is therapeutic. It is also a way to take pause and make one think of what we are experiencing, what is around us, what we see and how we feel, be it nature, family, sorrow, joy, it all needs to be appreciated and acknowledged. The endeavors I take now are a journey through all of this and more and I hope to share this with others.
