"The Pink Lady DonCeSar Watercolor" by Diann Fisher This is a digital watercolor of the gorgeous pink palace, known as The Don CeSar, sits along the Gulf Coast of Saint Petersburg, FL. This historic hotel was developed by Thomas Rowe and was opened in 1928 at a cost of $1.26 million. 300% over budget. The Don, as it was commonly referred to, was the playground of the rich and famous during the age of Jazz. Mr. Rowe died suddenly without a will and the hotel fell into disrepair. At that time WWII brought interest in the ailing hotel and it was purchased by the Army for $450,000 and became a Military hospital in 1942. In 1944 it became a US Air Force convalescent center and in 1945 the hotel was converted to Regional offices of the Veterans Administration. By the Spring of 1969 this once grand hotel was standing vacant once again. In 1973 the hotel was repurchased and re-established through renovation and additions to become grand once again acquiring the new name of The Don CeSar Beach...
