Description
"The Rock - Alcatraz" By Diann Fisher. A maximum security federal prison operated from August 11, 1934, until March 21, 1963, the notorious prison housed some of the ruthless prisoners. Situated on a small island in the San Francisco Bay, surrounded by strong currents of the bay, it was thought to be escape proof, until June 1962 when three inmates made it to the waters to swim for freedom. It is still unknown if they survived their escape attempt, or were swept away by the strong currents of the San Francisco bay waters.
